NEWS: Gabríela Friðriksdóttir designs for Benefit Society

Salt of the Earth

The globe of Goodwill is commissioned annually by the Icleandic Benefit Society for Children with Disabilities and used both for fundraising and for publicising the societies work and the plight of disabled children, not only in Icleand, but around the world. The project began in 2003 and last year's globe was designed by Rúrí. Gabríela says about her design:

“Infinite numbers of particles combine to form a landscape that unfolds and covers the earth. Rich in texture and diversity. A landscape that shapes and nourishes the various forms of life as well as the spirit dwelling within and outside It is the vitality of the soul as well as hope from which spring the world’s communities. Accepting preserving and respecting the creative power of variety is the spice of life – THE SALT OF THE EARTH.”

The Benefit Society for Children with Disabilities was founded more than fifty years ago to provide children and young people, that had suffered from polio, with therapy.  Today the organization stands for the most extensive physio and occupational therapy of children in Iceland. Its mission is to give disabled children and their families, all the support possible that can lead to a better life and well being.

The society has mainly two functions - i.e running The SLF’s Therapy Center and Reykjadalur a summer and winter camp for children and young people with physical or mental disabilities.
