Young Artist flock to Berlin

According to the statistics most of the Icelandic artists abroad live in Germany. Where? Of course Berlin is the place. Perhaps as a belated result from the Icelandic invasion during the art autumn 2005 (see LIST #6) a lot of things will happen again around ART-FORUM BERLIN. Gallery Torstrasse 111 for example will host artists involved in Kling&Bang gallery, Reykjavik including multi talent Egill Sæbjörnsson with an outdoor installation. Berlin based artist Erla Haraldsdóttir is participating in a group show in Berlinische Galerie entitled “Neue Heimat – Berlin Contemporary”. At Gallery Spielhaus Morrison, located behind Hamburger Bahnhof, Gabríela Friðriksdóttir will exhibit her new video installation. Coming from Frankfurt young gallery owner Ulrike Adler will show three young Icelanders at the second largest fair PREVIEW BERLIN. Iceland´s top gallery i8 will present Icelandic artists such as Hreinn Fríðfinnsson, Katrin Sigurðardóttir and Ragnar Kjartansson as well as international ones like Lawrence Weiner or Karin Sander at ART-FORUM. Finally on October 3rd a panel discussion at the main fair will focus on the “Art Cities in Dialogue: Reykjavik – Berlin”.
