Ragnar Kjartansson, Iceland's Pick for the 2009 Venice Biennale:

Represented by Luhring Augustine in New York

It was only this summer that Ragnar Kjartansson first exhibited at the Luhring Augustine in New York, in a group show of Icelandic artists entitled It's Not Your Fault. We wrote about the show at the time, excited that Icelandic art was being featured in one of the New York's most prestigious galleries. Now, however, Ragnar has been added to the list of artists permenently represented by the gallery, a list of only twenty-one names that includes such well-known artists as Rachel Whiteread, Michelangelo Pistoletto and Pipilotti Rist.

With Ragnar representing Iceland at the Biennale in Venice next summer, this endorsement comes at a good time in his career and should help introduce his remarkable works to a much wider audience.
