Iceland Presents Curators for the 2009 Venice Biennale:

Dorothée Kirch and Markús Þór Andrésson

Dorothée Kirch and Markús Þór Andrésson have been hired as curators for the Icelandic Pavilion at the 2009 Venice Biennale. Next year, Ragnar Kjartansson will represent Iceland at the 53rd edition of this world’s most important art event.

Kirch and Andrésson both live in Berlin and have extensive experience of the international art scene. They have worked with Kjartansson on an earlier occasion, on his recent exhibition in the Gallery Luhring Augustine in New York.

The Venice Biennale opens on June 7 next year and runs through November 22. The Icelandic Pavilion will be located centrally in the city, in Palazzo Michiel dal Brusa’, close to the Rialto bridge.

The Center for Icelandic Art (CIA) is organizing Iceland’s participation in the Venice Biennale and the curators will work closely with CIA’s director Christian Schoen, who is also commissioner of the Icelandic project. The exhibition project will be introduced at a press conference in coming Spring in Reykjavík.
